Health professionals and caregivers need the appropriate training in order to safely administer buccal midazolam, which is used to stop seizures among people at risk of status epilepticus (a life-threatening situation). Training helps ensure compliance with specific guidelines and administration techniques, and understand when buccal midazolam may not be the appropriate intervention for an individual patient. A standardised e-test was devised to measure competence in this important aspect of care.
